This can be much more productive than simply nodding to confirm a statement. The best salespeople are able to connect directly and personally with their prospects because they truly understand their clients' work and what difficulties they face every day. Being empathetic certainly makes you more appreciable in the eyes of your interlocutor but it will also give you the opportunity to close a commercial negotiation more easily.
